Women Empowerment and Legal Aid (WELA), in partnership with the Lagos State Health Management Agency (LASHMA), successfully enrolled 44 vulnerable beneficiaries into the Lagos State Health Insurance Scheme (Ilera Eko) during an enrolment exercise held at WELA House, Agege, Lagos, on 30 July 2026.
The four-hour exercise was facilitated by Mr. Solomon Lawal, who represented LASHMA, alongside members of the WELA team, including Mr. Sola Agbaje, Program Director; Mr. Felix Peter, Principal of WELA College of Vocational Training; and Youth Corps Members, Blessing Ajibade and Doyin Giwa.
The beneficiaries comprised low-income families, children, and a person living with a disability, reflecting WELA’s commitment to ensuring that vulnerable members of society have access to quality healthcare.
At the end of the enrolment exercise, all 44 beneficiaries had their Ilera Eko policy numbers generated and issued immediately. Their health insurance coverage will become effective on 10 September 2026 and will provide one year of healthcare access at no cost to the beneficiaries.
Speaking on the initiative, WELA reaffirmed its commitment to working with government and other stakeholders to expand access to essential services for vulnerable communities. The organisation also expressed its appreciation to LASHMA for partnering with WELA to improve healthcare access and promote the well-being of residents across Lagos State.
This initiative underscores the shared commitment of WELA and LASHMA to building healthier communities by ensuring that no one is left behind in accessing affordable, quality healthcare.
