The atmosphere at WELA College of Vocational Training was filled with excitement, creativity and celebration on Tuesday, 28 July 2026, as students from various vocational departments showcased the knowledge and practical skills they have acquired during their mock examinations.
The mock examinations, which marked the end of active classroom learning for the current session, featured outstanding presentations from students in Catering and Hospitality, Bag Making, Make-Up, Traditional Compere (Alaga), and Hairdressing.
The highlight of the day was undoubtedly the Catering and Hospitality Department, whose students transformed the examination hall into a fully functional restaurant. They welcomed invited guests and demonstrated exceptional professionalism by preparing and serving a carefully curated three-course meal, creating an authentic fine dining experience that impressed everyone in attendance.
Students of the Bag Making Department also displayed remarkable craftsmanship by producing two handcrafted bags each, reflecting the creativity, precision and technical skills they have developed throughout the programme.
The Make-Up Department showcased their artistry by working on live models, presenting a variety of professional looks that demonstrated their growing expertise and attention to detail.
Similarly, the Hairdressing Department impressed attendees as each student produced a handcrafted wig and styled the hair of their models, exhibiting both technical competence and creativity.
Adding colour and cultural richness to the event were the students of the Traditional Compere (Alaga) Department, who entertained guests with a lively presentation accompanied by a traditional drummer. Through songs and performances drawn from different ethnic groups across Nigeria’s South-West, they celebrated the beauty of Yoruba culture and the important role of traditional comperes in preserving our heritage.
The mock examinations were more than just an assessment—they were a celebration of talent, innovation and the practical, hands-on approach that defines vocational education at WELA College.
With the successful completion of the mock examinations, the students will proceed on a one-month vacation before embarking on a one-month industrial attachment, where they will gain valuable workplace experience in their respective fields. They will thereafter return to the College to undertake their final projects, the last stage of their training before graduation.
