WELA’s Courtesy Visit to CADAM Rehabilitation Centre: A Journey of Impact and Inspiration

At Women Empowerment and Legal Aid (WELA), we believe in supporting causes that align with our mission of empowerment, rehabilitation, and justice. So, when we embarked on a courtesy visit to the Christ Against Drug Abuse Ministry (CADAM) Rehabilitation Centre in Epe, Lagos, on Tuesday, 18th February 2025, we knew we were in for an eye-opening experience. What we did not expect was to leave even more inspired than when we arrived.

Armed with a few donated items and a strong sense of purpose, our delegation, led by our Founder and Chairperson, Funmi Falana, SAN, along with Program Director, Sola Agbaje (who impressively doubled as the photographer), and Folarin Oladimeji, set out on the journey. And what a journey it was—four hours to and fro! But every minute was worth it.

Upon arrival, we were warmly received by the centre’s administrators, Pastor Testimony Alakpa, his wife, Pastor Janet Alakpa, and Pastor Pelemo. Their hospitality was unmatched, and their dedication to the centre’s work was evident. Due to the centre’s strict policies, we could not take many pictures, which, given the nature of their work, was completely understandable. But what we saw and experienced firsthand was more than enough to leave a lasting impression.

We were privileged to visit the female section of the centre, where we had heart-to-heart conversations with the guests—yes, “guests,” as they are respectfully called. Their resilience and determination to rebuild their lives were truly inspiring. We also had the opportunity to address the male guests briefly in their chapel, where they welcomed us with warmth and gratitude.

But if there was one moment that stood out, it was hearing from the centre’s administrator, Pastor Testimony himself. With a past life as an addict, he shared his story with the guests in a way that only someone who has walked that path could. His testimony (pun intended) was proof that redemption is not just possible—it is happening, one life at a time. And if we needed any more convincing of CADAM’s impact, we were told that one of their graduates is now a pilot! Talk about soaring to new heights.

Our visit to CADAM reinforced the power of rehabilitation and the importance of second chances. The work they are doing is nothing short of remarkable, and we are immensely proud to have witnessed it. As we made the long trip back, we carried with us not just memories but a renewed commitment to supporting efforts that restore dignity and hope to those in need.

To CADAM, we say: keep up the phenomenal work! The impact is real, and the transformation is undeniable. And to those battling addiction—hope is never lost. Sometimes, all it takes is the right environment, the right people, and a little faith to turn things around.
