In commemoration of the International Day of Education, Women Empowerment and Legal Aid (WELA) has taken a bold step towards ensuring that young girls are not left behind in their educational journeys. Today, WELA officially launched its Free JAMB and WAEC Tutorial Centre, aimed at empowering young girls with the resources and knowledge they need to succeed in their academic pursuits.
This initiative was inspired by a revelation during the ongoing intake process at the WELA College of Vocational Training. It became evident that many young girls were either being discouraged from furthering their education or lacked the financial means to do so. Deeply concerned by these findings, WELA’s Founder and Chairperson, Mrs. Funmi Falana, SAN, took immediate action.
Addressing a gathering of young ladies at the WELA Home, Mrs. Falana shared her personal journey as a testament to the transformative power of education. She passionately encouraged the girls to persevere, regardless of the obstacles they face. “Education is a gateway to opportunities and personal growth,” she emphasized. “It has the power to take you further than you can imagine.”
In a heartfelt gesture, Mrs. Falana announced the establishment of a Free JAMB and WAEC Tutorial Centre at the WELA Home. The centre, which will commence operations on Monday, February 3rd, 2025, is designed to provide tailored support to young girls preparing for these critical examinations. It will offer them a solid foundation to achieve academic excellence and unlock future opportunities.
The WELA Home is located at 20, Anuoluwapo Street, Off Otubu Bus Stop, Off Ogba Road, Agege, Lagos, Nigeria.
This initiative is yet another demonstration of WELA’s commitment to breaking barriers and uplifting the less privileged. By creating opportunities for education, WELA is not only empowering young girls but also laying the groundwork for a more equitable society.
