WELA FC Wins Baale Ajegunle Agege Unity Cup in First Competitive Outing

Women Empowerment and Legal Aid Football Club (WELA FC) has recorded a major milestone with the victory at the Baale Ajegunle Agege Unity Cup, emerging champions in their first competitive tournament appearance under the Baale Ajegunle Youth Unity Games.

The final match took place on Sunday, 25 January 2026 at the Yidi Praying Ground, Pero, Agege, where WELA FC faced Ajegunle CDA in a keenly contested encounter. Displaying discipline, teamwork and determination, WELA FC secured victory to lift the Unity Cup, marking a historic achievement for the newly established team.

WELA FC was officially launched in December 2025 during the graduation ceremony of the WELA Vocational Training College. The football club forms part of WELA’s broader community intervention strategy aimed at engaging young men through sports, promoting positive values, and redirecting energy away from social vices into structured and productive activities.

The club was created to provide opportunities for young men in the community to develop their talents, build character, and foster teamwork, leadership and discipline through organised sports. By investing in grassroots football, WELA seeks to contribute to youth development, social inclusion and community cohesion.

The victory at the Baale Ajegunle Agege Unity Cup underscores the potential impact of sports as a tool for empowerment and community engagement. It also reflects the commitment of WELA to holistic development initiatives that address not only legal and economic challenges but also the social wellbeing of young people.

WELA congratulates the players, technical crew and supporters of WELA FC for this remarkable achievement and reaffirms its commitment to using sports as a platform for empowerment, unity and positive social change.
