International Day Of The Girl Child 2024

Today, as we observe the International Day of the Girl Child, we celebrate the potential and resilience of girls worldwide. This year’s theme, Vision for the Future, calls on all of us to reflect on how we can better support Nigerian girls to break through barriers and reach their full potential.

In Nigeria, young girls face challenges such as limited access to education, early marriages, and gender-based violence. Many girls are kept out of school due to inadequate menstrual health facilities, and some are at risk of sexual exploitation. Despite these obstacles, they continue to show strength and determination.

At Women Empowerment and Legal Aid (WELA), we are committed to fighting for the rights of girls, ensuring they have the resources, education, and legal support needed to thrive—especially in fields like science and technology.

This International Day of the Girl Child, we invite you to join us in advocating for girls’ rights and creating pathways for them to lead in innovation and beyond. Together, we can build a future where every girl in Nigeria is empowered to succeed.

Thank you for being part of this mission.
